The North

The Northern Region is another of Haiti’s ten geographical divisions. It has an area of 2,106 square kilometers and a population of just under a million.The department’s main city, Cap-Haïtien, was the former capital of the Republic of Haiti. King Henri Christophe built several extensive palaces and fortifications in the vicinity of Cap-Haïtien, including the Palace of Sans Souci and Citadel La Ferrière in Milot.

 

The North Region is divided into 7 districts and 19 communes.
